How to Download Satellite Data (Beginner)
  1. Choose your Area of Interest (AOI) — Draw a polygon or enter coordinates
  2. Set time range — Select start and end dates
  3. Select product — Choose the satellite mission and product level
  4. Choose format — GeoTIFF for raster, SHP/GPKG for vector
  5. Download — Direct download or add to cart for bulk download
Common Formats Explained
  1. GeoTIFF — Standard georeferenced raster. Works in all GIS software.
  2. NetCDF — Multi-dimensional scientific data (climate, ocean).
  3. HDF — Hierarchical data format, common for NASA products.
  4. SAFE — Sentinel standard archive format (contains metadata + imagery).
  5. SHP — Shapefile, classic vector format. Always comes as a set of files.
  6. GPKG — GeoPackage, modern single-file vector/raster format.
  7. COG — Cloud-Optimized GeoTIFF for streaming from cloud.
  8. LAZ/LAS — LiDAR point cloud formats (LAZ is compressed).
For GEE Users
  1. Sources tagged gee_ready are available directly in Google Earth Engine.
  2. When to download: Custom processing, offline analysis, archival, non-GEE workflows.
  3. When to use GEE: Large-scale analysis, time series, cloud computing, quick exploration.

  1. Public Domain — No restrictions (USGS, NOAA).
  2. Open/Creative Commons — Free with attribution required.
