The Survey of Bangladesh (SoB), under the Ministry of Defence, is the national mapping authority responsible for topographic surveying, geodetic control, aerial photography, cartography, and production of official maps of Bangladesh. Established in 1767 as part of the Great Trigonometric Survey of India, SoB maintains the national geodetic reference framework (Bangladesh Transverse Mercator projection, BTM), produces the official topographic map series at multiple scales, and conducts cadastral surveys. SoB also operates aerial survey aircraft and has recently acquired modern LiDAR and photogrammetric capabilities.

Each AEZ polygon includes attributes for land type (highland to very low land), soil texture, organic matter content, soil pH range, moisture availability period, cropping season length, and recommended crop suitability. The AEZ database was developed with FAO support and is the foundation for all agricultural planning in Bangladesh.
